s / Osteoarthritis and Cartilage 25 (2017) S76eS444 S315 When histological items were analyzed individually, it appears that the structure of the cartilage and the proteoglycan content were better correlated with the instantaneous modulus of the femoral condyle (r 1⁄4 0.58, < 0.0001; r1⁄4 0.517, p < 0.0001) thanwith other items. At the tibial plateaus, the strongest associations were found between the items cartilage structure and integrity of tidemark and the young modulus (r 1⁄4 0.435, p 1⁄4 0.0014; r 1⁄4 0.433, p 1⁄4 0, 0015). Conversely, a significantly negative correlation was also observed between the global histological score and OA cartilage thickness (condyle: r 1⁄4 0.346, p 1⁄4 0.009; plateau: r 1⁄4 0.273, p 1⁄4 0.045). Development and characterization of various osteoarthritis models for tissue engineering
Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by a progressive loss of articular cartilage, subchondral bone sclerosis and synovial inflammation and is the most common chronic condition worldwide today. However, most treatments have focused on pain relief and OA symptoms. For these reasons, many ongoing studies are currently trying to develop efficient and successful therapies based on its pathology. An...
متن کاملAge Dependent Changes in Cartilage Matrix, Subchondral Bone Mass, and Estradiol Levels in Blood Serum, in Naturally Occurring Osteoarthritis in Guinea Pigs
The Dunkin Hartley (DH) guinea pig is a widely used naturally occurring osteoarthritis model. The aim of this study was to provide detailed evidence of age-related changes in articular cartilage, subchondral bone mineral density, and estradiol levels. We studied the female Dunkin Hartley guinea pigs at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of age (eight animals in each group). Histological analysis were us...
متن کاملThe Effect of Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Aqueous Extract of Elaeagnus Angustifolia on the Mechanical Properties of Articular Cartilage in an Experimental Model of Rat Osteoarthritis
Introduction: Although, the effect of direct intra-articular injection of bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) on the repair of articular cartilage and the effect of Elaeagnus angustifolia extract on pain relief in patients with osteoarthritis have been investigated, no studies has been conducted to compare the effects of these two therapeutic methods on the mechanical properties of articular cartila...
متن کاملUnravelling the relationship between age, nociception and joint destruction in naturally occurring osteoarthritis of Dunkin Hartley guinea pigs.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating and painful disease, the incidence of which increases with advancing age. One of the confounding aspects of OA is that there is a disconnect between the severity of joint degeneration and the intensity of pain reported. This study examined the relationship between age, joint nociception, and joint pathology in an animal model of naturally occurring OA. Dunk...
متن کاملSubchondral Bone Plate Thickening Precedes Chondrocyte Apoptosis and Cartilage Degradation in Spontaneous Animal Models of Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder characterised by bone remodelling and cartilage degradation and associated with chondrocyte apoptosis. These processes were investigated at 10, 16, 24, and 30 weeks in Dunkin Hartley (DH) and Bristol Strain 2 (BS2) guinea pigs that develop OA spontaneously. Both strains had a more pronounced chondrocyte apoptosis, cartilage degradation, and ...
